Electric Lawn MowersWelcome to Electric Lawn Mowers!

As spring approached and the weather gets warmer plant begin reaching up to the sky to display their beautiful plumage. Watching a flower unfold and bloom is an alluring and mystical experience, unless it’s a dandelion growing in the middle of the lawn. While a dandelion should be carefully removed at the root, the rest of the lawn will eventually need to be trimmed. There are a few ways to do it, a push-mower that is powered by the movement of the wheels, a gas mower and an electric lawnmower.

While a push mower is the most cost effective, the only energy it wastes is that of the user, it can be a difficult way to mow large swaths of lawn. A gas mower is effective and powerful, but difficult to maintain and incredibly loud. The fluids it uses are dangerous and volatile, making them unsuitable around kids and pets. Electric mowers are quickly becoming the most popular tools for mowing a lawn and offer many advantages over gas powered mowers.

One of the biggest advantages is ease if use. There is no filling, priming, or pulling to get an electric mower started, just plug it in and go. They often operate with a simple on button or handle that when released automatically shuts off the mower. Another appealing advantage is their low cost, both to purchase and to operate. They run for pennies on the day, and are often only used a couple of times a week. There are less moving parts and overall it is less complex making it lighter and easier to navigate than a similarly sized gas model.

Electric lawn mowers and other electric yard equipment is very quiet. Neighbors will never be awakened by the lawnmower at 6 am on a Saturday morning anymore. Loud lawnmowers have been the cause of many neighbor disturbances, it is more annoying than incredibly loud, bad music. The only sound heard from an electric trimmer is a gentle whir as the blades quickly slice grass into itty bitty bits that turn into mulch and fertilize the lawn naturally.

The disadvantages of electric lawnmowers are the fact that it has to plugged in, which limits its range and creates a risk of electric shock if the cord is accidentally run over, a common problem. There are cordless models on the market but they are plagued with short mow time, long recharge and low power as well as being just as heavy as a gas powered model. Large lawns would require long extension cords, or multiple plugs that are accessible in the yard. They are not designed to take the abuses of professional lawn and landscape work, but are perfectly able to mow a small lawn reliably for years.

Money can be saved by purchasing an electric mower, and that old gas powered lawn trimmer can be converted into a go-cart, a much more fun and entertaining way to use a gas engine that can be enjoyed by young and old, instead of regretted by all.
